Karachi Traffic Police is set to introduce robotic units to issue electronic challans as part of the E-Tracks system, aiming to enhance traffic management and promote compliance with city regulations. DIG Traffic Peer Muhammad Shah stated that the deployment of these robots is expected to improve road discipline by automating monitoring processes and reducing reliance on manual enforcement. The initiative reflects ongoing efforts to integrate technology into public services and modernize urban traffic systems in Pakistan’s largest city.

From next month, the robots will patrol major roads including Saddar and Tariq Road at speeds of approximately 20 kilometers per hour. Equipped with high-resolution cameras and advanced sensors, the units will detect violations such as illegal parking, two-lane driving, and other traffic infractions. Once detected, the system will automatically generate electronic challans that are directly issued to the offending motorists, reducing delays and ensuring more consistent enforcement across busy streets. This approach is designed to maintain fairness and improve compliance while easing the workload on traffic personnel.

Shah noted that the E-Tracks system has already proven effective, with nearly 50,000 motorists fined for violations within two weeks of its initial implementation. The addition of robotic patrols is expected to strengthen the impact of this system, extending coverage to more roads and improving monitoring accuracy. Traffic officials highlighted that integrating robotics with the existing digital infrastructure allows for continuous monitoring without requiring constant human intervention, ensuring more efficient management of congestion and unsafe driving behaviors.

Officials emphasized that this initiative aligns with Karachi’s broader vision for smart city solutions. By combining robotics, sensors, and automated e-challan issuance, the city aims to improve road safety, enhance compliance, and provide a more organized urban environment. As traffic volume continues to rise, the use of such technology-driven enforcement tools is expected to become a key component of Karachi’s urban mobility strategy. The deployment of robots under E-Tracks represents a step forward in leveraging digital technology to address common traffic challenges while improving operational efficiency and service delivery for citizens.
