Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has announced that all vehicles entering Islamabad must be equipped with an electronic tag within the next two weeks, as part of enhanced city security measures. The directive requires residents and visitors alike to install E-tags to gain access to the federal capital. Authorities have been instructed to carry out a city-wide operation to ensure compliance and identify vehicles without the required electronic identification. The new measure is aimed at improving monitoring of vehicle movement and supporting law enforcement efforts across Islamabad.

Naqvi emphasized that after the deadline, no vehicle will be allowed entry without a registered E-tag. Law enforcement agencies have been directed to conduct rigorous checks to ensure adherence, and illegal residents or non-compliant vehicles will face removal from the city. Officials stated that the operation will be comprehensive, covering all entry points and urban areas, to maximize the effectiveness of the system. The E-tag implementation is expected to significantly improve traffic management and provide authorities with real-time data on vehicles entering and exiting the city.

The announcement follows a recent attack in G-11, which resulted in twelve fatalities and left twenty-seven people injured. Naqvi visited the site of the incident and assured citizens of ongoing investigations to identify those responsible. Forensic teams have been deployed to analyze evidence, while hospitals have been instructed to provide optimal care for the victims. Authorities are coordinating across police and intelligence agencies to strengthen security measures and prevent further incidents. The E-tag system is seen as a critical component of these broader efforts to enhance surveillance and maintain public safety within Islamabad.

Officials noted that the introduction of electronic vehicle identification represents a significant step in modernizing the capital’s security infrastructure. By linking each vehicle to a unique digital tag, the system will enable authorities to monitor movement patterns, detect unauthorized access, and respond more quickly to violations or suspicious activity. Citizens are being encouraged to register their vehicles promptly to avoid fines or denial of entry. The E-tag initiative demonstrates Islamabad’s approach to leveraging technology for safer urban mobility and improved governance, combining digital solutions with traditional law enforcement practices.
