In celebration of the International Women’s Day, IDG is back with its series featuring women from around the local ecosystem. Tête-à-Tech with E-Elle’s; here in conversation with the Founder of Digital Rights Foundation – Nighat Dad.

“Women bring a plethora of positive traits to Pakistan’s professional industries. The strong work ethic, knowledge, energy, skills, and resilience that these women bring to their respective workplaces, and industries, amazes me.

This women’s day, I would like to tell every woman that she is amazing, and I thank each one of you for adding quality to my work, and to this world with your remarkable talent and skills. Without you, the world wouldn’t be what it is today, and without you I wouldn’t be what I am today.”

Nighat Dad is a Pakistani lawyer, and internet activist, who runs the not-for-profit organization Digital Rights Foundation.

DRF’s driving force has been women, right from the beginning. According to their motto, DRF envisions a place where all people, and especially women, are able to exercise their right of expression without being threatened.

We believe that free internet with access to information and impeccable privacy policies can encourage such a healthy and productive environment that would eventually help not only women, but the world at large.

Nighat Dad’s work and contribution has been recognized globally. She was listed as one of Time magazine’s Next Generation Leaders’ year. In 2016 Nighat received the Atlantic Council Freedom Award as well as the prestigious Human Rights Tulip Award 2016 awarded by the Dutch government.

2016 was the year when Digital Rights Foundation launched the Hamara Internet campaign, designed to generate awareness about online harassment. It has, so far, trained more than 3,000 young women, from various educational institutes, to deal with cybercrimes.
