Pakistan has recorded a significant improvement in the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) ICT Development Index (IDI) 2026, highlighting the country’s continued progress in digital transformation and connectivity. According to the latest results, Pakistan’s ICT Development Index score increased from 56.4 in 2025 to 67.7 in 2026, representing a 20 percent relative improvement. The country also moved up 27 places in the global rankings, reflecting notable advancements in digital infrastructure, internet accessibility and overall ICT development.

The latest assessment also showed substantial gains in Pakistan’s connectivity indicators. The country’s connectivity pillar improved by 22.8 points, while its Meaningful Connectivity score reached 79, indicating broader access to reliable digital services and internet connectivity. These improvements demonstrate ongoing efforts to expand affordable broadband access, strengthen telecommunications infrastructure and improve the quality of digital services available to citizens across the country.

The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication attributed the progress to continued investments in digital infrastructure, connectivity expansion and initiatives aimed at promoting digital inclusion. Improved ICT performance is expected to support economic growth by enabling greater access to online education, digital public services, freelancing opportunities, entrepreneurship and technology-driven businesses. The government believes that expanding digital access remains a key component of Pakistan’s long-term economic and social development strategy.

The latest ITU rankings reinforce Pakistan’s progress toward building a more connected digital economy while highlighting the impact of ongoing policy reforms and infrastructure development. As the country continues investing in broadband expansion, emerging technologies and digital public services, further improvements in international ICT indicators are expected to strengthen Pakistan’s position as an increasingly connected and digitally enabled nation.
