Ignite National Technology Fund has commenced a series of Industry Stakeholder Consultation Sessions on the Sovereign Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure Initiative, operating under the framework of the National Artificial Intelligence Innovation Hub, bringing together key industry leaders to shape the direction of Pakistan’s artificial intelligence ecosystem. The first of three planned sessions was held in Karachi, marking the beginning of a structured national consultation process designed to build a resilient and future-ready artificial intelligence landscape across the country.
The Karachi session was led by Zarrar Hasham Khan, Secretary of Information Technology and Telecommunication, who set the direction for discussions on sovereign artificial intelligence capabilities and national innovation priorities. His presence at the opening session underscored the federal government’s institutional commitment to the initiative, which sits within the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication’s broader agenda for Pakistan’s technology sector. The consultation brought together representatives from across the industry, government bodies, and the national incubation network to contribute perspectives that will inform the design and rollout of the Sovereign Artificial Intelligence Infrastructure Initiative at a national level.
The Karachi session is the first in a three-part series, with upcoming consultations scheduled for Lahore and Islamabad, ensuring that stakeholder input is gathered from Pakistan’s three major technology and business hubs before the initiative’s framework is finalised. The distributed consultation model reflects an intent to incorporate diverse regional perspectives into what is ultimately a national policy and infrastructure agenda, rather than concentrating the planning process in the capital alone. National Incubation Centres from across the country were represented at the session, including those in Islamabad, Faisalabad, Peshawar, Karachi, Quetta, and Lahore, giving the consultation a geographic breadth that matches the scope of the initiative itself.
Ignite described the consultation series as a major step toward advancing Pakistan’s artificial intelligence landscape through collaboration and strategic vision, framing it within the government’s commitment to building sovereign artificial intelligence capabilities that are not dependent on external infrastructure or foreign platforms. The National Artificial Intelligence Innovation Hub initiative, if developed along the lines being discussed in these sessions, could provide the institutional and infrastructure backbone needed to support the government’s stated goal of training one million artificial intelligence professionals, launching domestically built artificial intelligence products, and positioning Pakistan as a competitive player in the global artificial intelligence economy over the coming decade.
