Hult Prize Pakistan Announces Winners from Semi-Finals Across Five Cities

Hult Prize is World’s Largest Engine for Social Good and is dubbed as Nobel Prize for Students. Hult Prize is a million dollar social entrepreneurship challenge present in 120+ countries and 1000+ Universities across the globe. Hult Prize Pakistan successfully organized 5 Semi Finals on 28thApril in Karachi, Sukkur, Lahore, Islamabad and Peshawar – in partnership with regional partners. Leading Social Entrepreneurs, Startup Mentors, and Professionals judged student teams for “Disruptive, Scaleble and Sustainable Business Ideas” in five Semi-Finals. Top-2 teams from each Semi-Final has moved into next stage of competition. Grand Final for Rs. 5,000,000 National Prize will be organized on 12th May in Islamabad.

Peshawar Semi Final was organized in partnership with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Technology Board (KPITB) at Digital Youth Summit 2018. Islamabad Semi Final was organized in partnership with National Incubation Center (NIC) Islamabad. Lahore Semi Final partners included Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) and Plan9.

Event was hosted at Arfa Karim IT Tower, Lahore. Sukkur Semi Final was organized in-partnership with Icon by Ghauris and Google Developers Group at IBA Sukkur University. Karachi Semi Final partner was Tech Pakistan and was hosted at Aman Foundation, Karachi.

Established in 2016, Hult Prize Pakistan chapter is now present in 20+ Universities across Pakistan including IBA Karachi, IBA Sukkur, University of Malakand, UET Lahore, ITU Lahore, Lahore Garrison University and IMSciences Peshawar. In 2017-18 Hult Prize Campus events Mahnoor Memon from IBA Sukkur was awarded Best Hult Prize Campus Director award from over 1,000 Campuses globally. This was a remarkable achievement for Mahnoor and Hult Prize Pakistan.

Hult Prize Foundation was Founded in 2009 by entrepreneur Ahmad Ashkar, it was named ‘One of the Top 5 Ideas Changing the World’ in 2012 by President Clinton and TIME Magazine. In September 2017, Pakistani American Students Team RoshniRides won $1M at the Finals of Hult Prize held at United Nations. RoshniRides is implementing a sustainable ride hailing solution for underprivileged communities of Karachi.

Sponsors and partners include JS Bank, National Incubation Center Islamabad, eTech, NUST and Granaa Group. Noman Azhar, EVP & Country Head Branchless Banking and Mustafa Minhas, CEO of eTech and Director Admin & Finance, Isra University Islamabad, congratulated the Hult Prize National Team for leading the youth for positive change and producing the “Next Wave of Social Entrepreneurs in Pakistan”.

Hult Prize Pakistan has engaged more than 10,000 university students for Social Entrepreneurship in Pakistan during 2017-18. Hult Prize Pakistan is striving to create an impactful startup ecosystem in Pakistan.
