In order to help customers out in putting together an outfit while they are shopping Guess and Alibaba have teamed up together to come up with an AI based technology that will make shopping for that perfect ensemble.

The system they have worked on is called the FashionAI that uses computer vision to help one create an entire outfit while shopping. A smart mirror will recognize the color, style and traits of what one is holding and suggest other items that would be a good complement, including clothes you’ve already bought online.

For the convenience of the customer and the shopkeeper, each item in the store carries Bluetooth, RFID and motion sensors that automatically display the item on the smart mirror. Therefore, if one wants to try something on, they just have to pick it on the mirror and the staff will collect whatever you’re interested in and bring it to you.

FashionAI was showcased by Guess and Alibaba in a concept store at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University’s campus till July 7th. The demo tied heavily into Alibaba’s own shopping services such as Taobao and Tmall.
