The government has strengthened its emergency response system during the ongoing monsoon season by establishing a dedicated Flood Emergency Call Center for Islamabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), and Gilgit Baltistan. The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has activated the special facility at National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC), one of its attached organizations, to improve emergency communications and support faster coordination during heavy rainfall and flood related incidents. The initiative is intended to ensure that residents in vulnerable regions have access to a centralized emergency communication system throughout the monsoon period.

Under the new arrangement, residents of Islamabad, AJK, and Gilgit Baltistan can dial 911 to report flood related or weather related emergencies. All emergency calls received during the monsoon season will be routed directly to the NTC Call Center, which has been assigned responsibility for operating the dedicated Flood Emergency Call Center. According to the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, all required preparations have been completed to ensure that the facility remains operational and capable of handling emergency communications efficiently during periods of severe weather. The ministry stated that the objective is to strengthen communication between the public and emergency response agencies while enabling authorities to react more quickly to incidents caused by heavy rains, flooding, and related emergencies. By centralizing emergency calls through a single platform, the government aims to improve coordination among relevant departments while reducing response times during critical situations.

Officials said the activation of the NTC Call Center forms part of the government’s broader efforts to enhance disaster management capabilities and improve public access to emergency assistance. The dedicated facility has been established to provide uninterrupted communication support during the monsoon season and ensure that emergency reports are received and processed without unnecessary delays. The centralized communication system is expected to facilitate better coordination among emergency services responsible for responding to flood related incidents across Islamabad, AJK, and Gilgit Baltistan. The government believes that providing a dedicated emergency contact point will improve the overall efficiency of response operations while helping authorities manage emergency situations in a more organized manner. The call center also demonstrates the role of digital communication infrastructure in supporting public safety and emergency management during adverse weather conditions.

The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication emphasized that the primary purpose of the NTC Call Center is to provide prompt emergency response and maintain reliable communication throughout the monsoon season. By assigning NTC the responsibility of managing all flood related emergency calls through the dedicated facility, the government aims to strengthen coordination between emergency responders and affected communities. The initiative supports ongoing efforts to improve disaster preparedness through technology enabled communication systems while ensuring that residents in Islamabad, AJK, and Gilgit Baltistan can quickly report emergencies using the 911 helpline. The activation of the Flood Emergency Call Center highlights the importance of modern telecommunications infrastructure in supporting disaster response operations and enhancing public safety during periods of heavy rainfall and flooding.
