Empowering the next generation of technology professionals, a three-day training workshop on Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity was recently conducted at the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology (GIK Institute). Held from August 23 to 25, the workshop was exclusively designed for students from the Malakand region. It aimed to build their capacity in the rapidly growing fields of AI and Cybersecurity, which have become critical pillars of the global digital future.
The initiative was sponsored by the Directorate General of Science & Technology (DoST), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, reflecting the government’s commitment to nurturing youth in advanced technologies. The leadership of DoST, including Director General Sajid Shah, Director Taza Gul, and Deputy Director Engr. Falak Niaz, played a key role in enabling this program. Their consistent support has been instrumental in creating opportunities for young learners in underserved regions to access advanced training and knowledge in highly sought-after areas of technology.
Renowned trainers Dr. Muhammad Hanif and Dr. Salman Ahmed led the sessions, bringing both academic expertise and practical insights to the participants. Their engagement ensured that students not only gained exposure to foundational concepts but also learned how these technologies are applied in real-world scenarios. The workshop was structured to spark interest, inspire innovation, and prepare the students for future roles as professionals in AI and Cybersecurity. With these skills, they will be better positioned to pursue global opportunities and contribute meaningfully to Pakistan’s evolving digital economy.
Adding to the significance of the event, Mr. Shafqat Ayaz, Minister of Science & Technology and Information Technology, graced the closing ceremony as Chief Guest. His presence underscored the importance the provincial government places on equipping students with future-oriented skills. By supporting initiatives like this, DoST is ensuring that young people in regions like Malakand are not left behind in the digital transformation. With workshops such as this, Pakistan continues to take important steps in preparing its next generation of innovators, researchers, and digital defenders who can play a crucial role in both local and global technology ecosystems.
