Get Hired 2020: Global Career Event Across USA/Pakistan, by Pakistani Women in Computing (PWiC) & Allies

Pakistani Women in Computing have announced Get Hired 2020: the first of its kind inclusive, and 100% virtual, conference-combined career event. Bringing in local and global hiring companies, the event is connecting candidates virtually from Pakistan and the USA. We had the chance to speak to Muazma Zahid, President Pakistani Women in Computing (PWiC) and Lead Organizer for the event.

Get Hired 2020 will provide several opportunities for learning and growth through talks, networking sessions, company booths, hiring manager connects, and more! Speakers at the event represent both executive and technical leadership from organizations like Amazon, Cisco, Microsoft, Google, Sybrid, KeepTruckin, PASHA and George Washington University.

Due to Covid19, a decline in the global market has led to jobs layoff in tech and the new graduates are also struggling to find companies that are currently hiring. The event is split across two separate sessions occurring in the US and in Pakistan. Important dates to follow:

The goal of this global flagship event series by PWiC is to connect a prescreened and diverse talent pool of potential candidates with the hiring companies that are currently hiring in these uncertain times and that also value an inclusive work culture.

Using AI-powered platform, the hiring companies will be recruiting candidates through a 100% virtual process. Fields include software engineering, design, data, and product management tracks. To ensure further success, a week prior to each event, PWiC has scheduled preparation weekends for candidates to be mentored via hiring guidelines, talks, resume reviews and mock interviews.

Without Collaboration, We’re Nothing

Speaking of the community at large, and the collaborations PWiC has built, Muazma shares,

“The support from the local ICT industry has been tremendous. For hiring in Pakistan, PWiC got connected with 30+ companies and currently, 18 of those hiring companies are participating at the event. PWiC has also received support from PSEB and the Ministry of IT. Some of the startups at the event have global presence in Silicon Valley, Seattle, and Singapore. PWiC has 30+ local communities and 6+ top engineering and business schools joining us as our outreach partners and allies.”

PWiC is grateful for IDG’s support for Get Hired 2020 – Pakistan and thankful for its allyship to create an impact by amplifying our message!

IDG Pakistan is a Knowledge & Technology Media Partner for the event. The event day is filled back to back interviews, along with Lightning Talks and informational & networking sessions. CWPK Legacy
Launched in 1967 internationally, ComputerWorld is the oldest tech magazine/media property in the world. In Pakistan, ComputerWorld was launched in 1995. Initially providing news to IT executives only, once CIO Pakistan, its sister brand from the same family, was launched and took over the enterprise reporting domain in Pakistan, CWPK has emerged as a holistic technology media platform reporting everything tech in the country. It remains the oldest continuous IT publishing brand in the country and in 2025 is set to turn 30 years old, which will be its biggest benchmark and a legacy it hopes to continue for years to come. CWPK is part of the SPIN/IDG Wakhan media umbrella.
