Foodpanda, Pakistan’s leading online food and grocery delivery platform, has joined hands with Karachi Traffic Police to conduct a structured road safety training workshop for its delivery riders. The session was led by Sub-Inspector Masood Ahmed from the Tariq Road Traffic Section, with the program focused on educating delivery partners about essential traffic laws and the importance of preventive measures while navigating Karachi’s busy streets. The initiative is part of foodpanda’s broader and ongoing commitment to building a culture of safety within its growing fleet of delivery partners across Pakistan.
During the training, riders received detailed briefings on critical safety protocols, including the mandatory use of helmets for both riders and pillions, ensuring bike fitness with functional mirrors and chain covers, and strict adherence to the use of original number plates. The session went beyond basic compliance, addressing specific hazards that delivery riders routinely encounter on urban roads. Participants were educated on avoiding overspeeding and one-way violations, navigating heavy vehicle blind spots, and protecting female passengers from clothing-related accidents. The depth and specificity of the training reflects a deliberate effort to prepare riders for the full range of challenges they face during daily operations in one of Pakistan’s most congested cities.
A notable component of the workshop was the introduction to modern traffic enforcement mechanisms. Riders were briefed on the new faceless e-challan system, with emphasis placed on the role of technology in contemporary traffic enforcement. This awareness is particularly relevant as Karachi’s traffic authorities continue to expand their use of digital tools to monitor and penalize violations without the need for physical intervention. By ensuring riders understand how the system works, foodpanda is helping its fleet stay compliant and avoid penalties that could disrupt their livelihoods.
This workshop aligns with foodpanda’s wider “Rider Care” agenda, which has seen the company roll out multiple safety-focused programs across the region in recent years. Foodpanda has been conducting mandatory road safety workshops in close partnership with local traffic police authorities, with the aim of fostering a strong culture of responsible and disciplined driving across its delivery network. The company has reported a 30 percent reduction in delivery partner accidents across its Asia-Pacific fleet since 2023, a figure it attributes to sustained investment in education, protective equipment, technology, and overall rider well-being. In Pakistan specifically, these efforts have included helmet distribution drives in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad, as well as collaboration with traffic authorities to conduct regular awareness sessions, demonstrating that the Karachi workshop is not a standalone event but part of a long-term, structured commitment to road safety for gig workers in the country.
