Easypaisa digital bank, Pakistan’s leading digital financial services platform, has taken on a central role in the implementation of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s Fuel Package 2026, becoming the first digital wallet in the country to successfully facilitate the transfer of the initiative’s first batch of disbursements to truck operators. Under this initial phase, the platform processed PKR 1.2 billion in payments to over 32,000 beneficiaries, covering operators of buses, trucks, long-haul vehicles, and delivery vans — segments of the transport sector that have faced mounting pressure from rising fuel costs. Subsequent phases of the programme are expected to extend coverage to tank lorries, buses, and motorcycle operators, broadening the relief effort considerably across Pakistan’s vast and economically critical transport network.
The mechanics of the disbursement reflect a deliberate shift in how the government delivers public welfare support. By leveraging Easypaisa’s extensive digital payments infrastructure, widespread agent network, and mobile wallet ecosystem, the initiative has moved away from traditional cash-based distribution models that have historically been prone to delays, errors, and leakages. Beneficiaries are able to receive funds in real time directly into their digital wallets, with the flexibility to withdraw cash, pay utility bills, or make purchases through the platform’s interface — removing the need for long queues or complex administrative procedures. The platform’s role in ensuring accurate targeting and minimising leakages has been highlighted as a key contribution to making the subsidy programme more accountable and results-oriented.
Jahanzeb Khan, President and Chief Executive Officer of Easypaisa digital bank, said the platform was honoured to support the government in delivering timely financial relief to citizens, and described the initiative as a demonstration of the tangible impact that digital banks can have in driving efficiency and transparency within public welfare programmes. Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja echoed this framing, stating that digital payments have become a key pillar of Pakistan’s modern financial system and that platforms such as Easypaisa are playing a vital role in ensuring government support reaches citizens quickly and securely. She placed the initiative within the broader digital nation vision of the Prime Minister, describing digital finance as a direct instrument for improving lives and advancing the country’s ambition of becoming a cashless and digitally empowered Pakistan. With over 59 million registered users and a network of agents spanning both urban and rural areas, Easypaisa continues to cement its position as the preferred infrastructure partner for government-to-person payment programmes at national scale.
