In a groundbreaking collaboration, Pakistani mobile phone brand DIGIT has joined forces with global semiconductor company MediaTek to offer affordable 4G smartphones to Vodacom customers in South Africa, Egypt, and Tanzania. This initiative aims to bring advanced mobile connectivity to millions of users still using 2G devices.

This partnership not only marks a milestone for Pakistan’s Mobile Manufacturing Industry but also positions the nation as a key player in the global tech market, aligning with the vision for a digital Pakistan. The alliance signifies a significant step for the first Pakistani brand engaged in such a substantial partnership on a massive scale, contributing to economic strength and global tech market prominence.

Rami Osman, Director for Business Development, MediaTek Middle East and Africa, highlighted the importance of affordable smartphones like Digit4G in accelerating access to 4G networks, promoting fast mobile connectivity for everyone in Africa.

Vodacom, with approximately 600 million people in Sub-Saharan Africa without smartphones (2G only or no phone), is working alongside DIGIT and MediaTek to drive the migration of 2G and 3G users to 4G devices, ensuring broader digital inclusion.

Davide Tacchino, Managing Executive: Terminals at Vodacom, emphasized the significance of 4G device distribution in unleashing digital inclusion in Africa, aiming to provide affordable data-capable devices for widespread connectivity.

Abdul Rehman Mahmood, CEO of DIGIT, expressed the brand’s commitment to closing the digital divide in Africa through the partnership. The Digit4G Energy offers advanced features like VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Hotspot, and Bluetooth, contributing to uninterrupted connectivity for users.

This collaboration not only showcases DIGIT’s innovation on a global scale but also strengthens Pakistan’s position in the global technology landscape, fostering economic prosperity and elevating the nation’s status in mobile manufacturing technology. It marks a transformative leap for Pakistan, driving economic growth, innovation, and job creation.
