Master Changan Motors may be considering an addition to its local vehicle lineup after a Changan Oshan X5 test vehicle was reportedly spotted on Pakistani roads, rekindling speculation about the compact crossover’s potential entry into the local market. The automaker has not issued any official confirmation regarding the vehicle’s arrival, and no launch date, local pricing, or Pakistan-specific specifications have been announced at this stage, meaning any reports of an imminent launch should be treated as speculation until a formal announcement is made.
This is not the first time the Oshan X5 has appeared in Pakistan. A left-hand-drive test unit was also observed in the country back in 2022, at which point it was reportedly brought in for research purposes, road testing, and the collection of customer feedback. The reappearance of a test vehicle suggests that Master Changan may still be actively evaluating the crossover for the Pakistani market, though road testing alone does not guarantee that a commercial launch will follow. The company currently sells the Oshan X7, Alsvin, Karvaan, and M9 in Pakistan, and the Oshan X5 does not feature in its official local lineup.
In terms of specifications, the 1.5-litre turbocharged Blue Whale engine is considered the more likely powertrain option for Pakistan, as the earlier test unit spotted in 2022 also used this engine. It produces 180 horsepower and 300 Newton metres of torque, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The vehicle uses a front-wheel-drive layout and seats five passengers. The Chinese market version of the Oshan X5 was originally offered in eight variants, including models with both naturally aspirated and turbocharged petrol engines, though a 1.6-litre naturally aspirated variant is not expected to be part of any potential local offering. Master Changan would likely introduce a reduced number of variants tailored to local demand, pricing dynamics, and production requirements.
On dimensions, the Oshan X5 measures approximately 4,490 millimetres in length, 1,860 millimetres in width, and 1,580 millimetres in height, with a wheelbase of 2,710 millimetres. These figures place it noticeably smaller than the Oshan X7, which could allow it to function as a more accessible and affordable entry point within Changan’s sport utility vehicle range in Pakistan. If launched, the Oshan X5 would likely compete with the Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tucson, MG HS, and Haval Jolion, depending on where it is eventually priced. Its success in the market would ultimately hinge on factors such as local assembly status, feature packaging, after-sales support infrastructure, and delivery timelines — all of which remain unknown until the company moves forward with an official announcement.
