Alienware has released its first true budget gaming laptop in the company’s 30 year history, with the Alienware 15 arriving at a starting price of $1,000. The launch comes as computer manufacturers across the globe continue to struggle with rising RAM prices, making the timing of an affordable gaming option particularly notable for budget conscious buyers.
The base configuration comes equipped with an Intel Core 5 chip and an RTX 4050 GPU, though a slightly higher configuration priced around $200 more includes an Intel Core 7 240H processor, 16GB of RAM, 512GB of storage, and RTX 5050 graphics. In gaming performance tests, the higher specification model reached 45 frames per second in Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p with Ultra ray tracing settings enabled, a figure that rose to 78 frames per second when ray tracing was disabled. In Control, the same configuration reached 96 frames per second at 1080p with Epic graphics settings, reflecting solid performance for standard 1080p gaming across current titles.
The laptop features a stripped down design built almost entirely from black plastic rather than the metal chassis used on Alienware’s pricier models, with no RGB lighting on either the lid logo or keyboard, which instead uses a simple white backlight. Despite the lower price point, the device retains a solid port selection, including two USB-A 3.2 ports, two USB-C connections with one supporting power delivery and DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.1, a 3.5mm audio jack, and dedicated 1Gb Ethernet. The main weak point is its 15.3-inch LCD display, which covers only 62.5 percent of the sRGB color spectrum despite offering a 165Hz refresh rate and 300-nit peak brightness, along with a basic 720p webcam limited to 30 frames per second.
The higher specification model also includes a larger 70Whr battery, a 30 percent increase over the base model’s 54Whr cell, delivering just over eight hours of battery life in standard productivity testing. The launch arrives at a time when gaming hardware prices have been climbing broadly across the industry, with recent price increases affecting other gaming consoles as component costs rise amid a global memory chip shortage driven largely by AI infrastructure investment. Against that backdrop, the Alienware 15 stands out as a rare affordable option in a gaming hardware market where prices have generally been moving upward.
