NED University of Engineering and Technology’s Asma M Hashmi STEM Centre has completed a Beginners’ Workshop on STEM and Robotics in Sukkur, held as part of the Pathways STEM Workshop Series 2026, an initiative aimed at expanding access to hands on science and technology education for young learners in the city. The workshop was jointly organized by Lok Sahaita Trust, the Asma M Hashmi STEM Centre at NED University, and IBA Public School Sukkur.
Over four days and more than 12 hours of instruction, 35 school students from grades 5 to 7, drawn from IBA Public School Sukkur and Pakistan Sweet Home, explored the fundamentals of electronics, circuit design, Arduino programming, embedded systems, and sensor integration through hands on experimentation and project based learning. Participants built a foundation in electrical circuits, used simulation tools including PhET and Tinkercad to model electronic systems, programmed the Arduino Uno using C and C++, and worked with sensors and actuators before concluding the workshop by developing and demonstrating an ultrasonic sensor based mini project.
The workshop’s leadership team included NED University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr M Tufail, Pro Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Noman Ahmed, Lok Sahaita Trust Chairperson Syed Pir Muhammad Shah, Asma M Hashmi STEM Centre Director Professor Dr Majida Kazmi, and IBA Public School Sukkur Principal Dr Ali Gohar Chang, along with Workshop Coordinator Mohammad Arab. The sessions were delivered by STEM trainers Fazal Abbas, a researcher and science communicator, and Azhar Ali, a researcher and embedded systems expert.
Organizers described the workshop as the beginning of a structured STEM learning pathway intended to equip young learners with the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills needed to progress toward more advanced topics in robotics, embedded systems, and emerging technologies. The initiative reflects a broader push by academic institutions and civil society organizations in Pakistan’s smaller cities to expand access to hands-on technical education beyond the country’s traditional urban education hubs.
