A sixty second thought

Today, I finally got a chance to think, my mind was not in control of anything, I was free to move my neck which was no more in one direction, because that bug was not with me. I had put it on charge. Yes I am talking about my phone, which has made my life rather gloomy. Incidentally I dropped my tablet cracking its screen and luckily my laptop was with my brother.

Today this world seems different or maybe I have just decided to spend these few hours differently. Away for notification tone’s of text messages, emails and social media.

My God, what sort of life do we live? I questioned myself. Lying on my bed and staring at the rotating fan, immediately thinking of all the processes that go behind making this fan work.

Primarily because in today’s time, our vision is limited to LCDs of these smart technologies and our thinking is not beyond those applications on our phones. Our hobbies include, liking photos on facebook, commenting on photos, updating status, Whatsapping, talking on Viber, updating Instagram, maintaining a profile on LinkedIn and tweeting.

I turned my side, instantly looking at the bedside table, where I usually put my phone. Today it was not here and as I was alone and I could use it without intrusion. Our lives now revolt around the gadget that when we are talking to someone, our eyes fixated on our phones or our ears are waiting for it to ring, giving no importance to person right next to us. We value our phones more than we value people. Our attitude towards each other has changed drastically, giving no time to sit with family and actually talking to them about our day.

I changed my side again with more random thoughts coming to my mind. Recalling a survey which I had read online about the effects of over usage of cellphones, it was found that those who interact with different people on daily basis are 66% more active than the ones who don’t. Social gatherings increase knowledge and provide an opportunity to learn from experiences of other people. It molds your personality in a way that is best acceptable by the society. Perhaps I had found the reason for my laziness but chose to ignore it.

Here I was, sitting alone in a dark room waiting for my phone to get charged which was plugged in the living room downstairs.

Though these technological inventions have turned life easier but its negative effects are eating us day by day. Today these things are controlling us, rather than we controlling them. It’s time to think, the less we use them, the more we will be happier and active.

I compelled myself to stand up and open the window for light and fresh air to come in, which I’d kept closed because I couldn’t see the screen of my cellphone.
