Digital Pakistan: Coronavirus Chatbot Launched for Mass Awareness

Tania Aidrus, Prime Minister’s lead for the ‘Digital Pakistan’ initiative, announced on Monday that the government has successfully launched a chatbot for masses awareness on Coronavirus. The chatbot is also enabled to give out authentic information regarding the ongoing coronavirus outbreak, via authentic sources.

Aidrus made the announcement on Twitter “Our team wanted to build an effective way to get information out to Pakistanis. We’ve launched a chatbot to address common concerns on #Coronavirus. You can find labs near you and even do a quick test to assess your risk of #Coronavirus. Please try it out! http://www.messenger.com/t/NHSRCOfficial

The chatbot was developed with help from Botsify, whereas volunteers from Code for Pakistan are busy at work, engineering for better use of data and technology.

Earlier updates indicated that the government is using all resources to dedicate efforts to combat the spread of coronavirus, as she stated “using data and technology to get ahead of the coronavirus”. She also used the medium to reach out to to health-tech practitioners, citizens, tele-health experts to join forces and collaborate with State Minister of Health of Pakistan Dr Zafar Mirza and team.

“We’re using data analytics techniques and cutting edge technology to get ahead of the #Coronavirus. We’re trying to modernize and streamline data collection from the front lines. We have some of the best @CodeforPakistan engineers available in Pakistan volunteering their support,” she wrote.

The number of confirmed coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in Pakistan has risen to 235 as of Tuesday evening.

The global pandemic has affected 158 countries, whereby more than 6,500 people have died and 170,000 infected by the disease called ‘COVID-19’ as it spreads rapidly to new territories.
