Yango Ride has made history in Pakistan’s ride-hailing sector by becoming the first platform to receive a Transport Network Company operating license from the Punjab Provincial Transport Authority, a development that marks a notable regulatory milestone for the country’s rapidly evolving digital mobility landscape. The license, granted under the Provincial Motor Vehicle Amendment Act of 2025, which formally governs ride-hailing services operating in Punjab, was the outcome of months of structured collaboration between Yango Ride, the Punjab Transport Ministry, and various other stakeholders working to establish a coherent and enforceable licensing framework for digital mobility platforms in the province.
The granting of the license carries significance beyond Yango Ride alone. It introduces a formal layer of transparency and consistency into a sector that has, until now, operated with limited regulatory clarity, providing platforms with operational certainty and reducing the risks associated with ambiguous or inconsistent enforcement. For consumers and drivers alike, the development signals a more structured and accountable ride-hailing environment in Punjab, as demand for flexible, app-based urban transportation continues to rise across Pakistan’s major cities. The approval also reinforces the direction that both the provincial government and the technology sector appear to be heading, with formal regulatory frameworks increasingly being developed to keep pace with the growth of digital services in mobility, finance, and other sectors.
Miral Sharif, Country Manager for Yango Pakistan, welcomed the development, noting that the license reflects the company’s commitment to fostering a safer, more affordable, and more reliable ride-hailing ecosystem in the country. Beyond the licensing milestone, Yango Ride has also disclosed that it is working with the Government of Punjab to integrate emergency services directly into the application, a feature intended to strengthen safety for both passengers and drivers during their journeys. The combination of formal regulatory recognition and active collaboration with provincial authorities positions Yango Ride as a meaningful contributor to the broader effort of building a well-governed, technology-driven urban transport infrastructure in Pakistan.
