X Faces Global Outage Affecting Tens Of Thousands Of Users Worldwide

Social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, experienced a significant global outage on Friday, marking the second disruption in less than a week and leaving tens of thousands of users unable to access the service. The outage affected multiple regions across the world, including the United States, United Kingdom, and India, causing widespread inconvenience for both casual users and businesses relying on the platform. Despite the scale of the incident, X has yet to issue an official statement regarding the cause of the disruption or a timeline for full restoration of services.

Data from internet monitoring service NetBlocks indicated that the outage was linked to international connectivity issues rather than any government-imposed internet restrictions or filtering in affected countries. Downdetector statistics, cited by Reuters, showed that by 10:35am ET, over 41,000 outage reports had been logged in the United States alone. Users in the United Kingdom reported approximately 8,000 incidents, while India accounted for more than 2,400 complaints. Reports of service disruptions increased again later in the day, with users encountering loading failures, broken links, and access errors around 8pm local time.

Cloudflare, the internet security and performance company, provided a late update confirming that it had identified an issue within its Magic Network Monitoring system. The company noted that some customers may have seen blank dashboards or missing data as a result, while assuring that mitigation efforts were underway. Earlier, Cloudflare had also warned users of scheduled maintenance that could temporarily reroute traffic and lead to minor latency increases. These factors may have contributed to the ongoing instability of the platform.

This outage follows a previous disruption earlier in the week, when access issues peaked with over 28,000 reports before gradually subsiding. The repeated incidents have raised concerns among users regarding X’s platform stability, particularly as the service continues to undergo technical and operational changes under Elon Musk’s leadership. Analysts note that frequent outages can affect user confidence, advertiser trust, and overall engagement, especially for a platform heavily relied upon for real-time communication, marketing, and news dissemination.

At present, X has not provided a public update, leaving users and observers waiting for clarity on the underlying cause and long-term measures to prevent similar disruptions in the future. The platform’s outages highlight the challenges social media services face in maintaining consistent performance while implementing technical upgrades and managing global-scale traffic. With millions of active users worldwide, ensuring reliable access remains critical for X as it navigates ongoing transitions and operational adjustments.
