The Electronic Certification Accreditation Council (ECAC) recently convened a high-level awareness session on “Digital Signatures and Digital Society Maturity,” gathering key stakeholders from Pakistan’s expanding digital ecosystem. The event, aimed at strengthening public understanding of Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and digital trust frameworks, featured insights from Dr. Péter Máté Erdősi of Crowe FST, Hungary, who outlined global trends in PKI deployment and the role of secure digital identities in modern economies.

Participants included representatives from the Ministry of IT and Telecommunication Pakistan (MoIT&T), Pakistan Digital Authority (PDA), National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC), National CERT – Pakistan Banking Sector, telecom operators including Jazz, and audit professionals from Crowe Pakistan. Discussions focused on strategies for advancing secure digital transactions, improving citizen-centric identity solutions, and integrating robust PKI standards into financial, government, and telecom systems.

The session underscored the growing importance of digital signatures in enabling secure e-governance, fintech operations, and enterprise cybersecurity initiatives. ECAC highlighted how mature digital trust frameworks can facilitate seamless digital transactions, enhance regulatory compliance, and safeguard critical citizen and corporate data. Stakeholders also explored practical pathways for issuing cryptographic keys, implementing trusted digital certificates, and supporting interoperability across government and private platforms.

ECAC leadership expressed appreciation for the active participation of attendees and emphasized continued collaboration to advance Pakistan’s digital society maturity. With contributions from both international experts and local technology partners, the session reinforced Pakistan’s trajectory toward a secure, digitally empowered economy, laying the foundation for broader adoption of secure e-services, PKI-enabled applications, and robust digital identity infrastructure.
