Women Entrepreneurs To Represent Pakistan @ Facebook Community Leadership Program

In February Facebook announced the Facebook Community Leadership Program, a global initiative that invests in people building communities. Through the program the social media giant is to commit tens of millions of dollars to the program, including up to $10 million in grants that will go directly to people creating and leading communities.

Applications for Community Leaders went live back in February and Facebook show to 6,000 applications from all over the world. A selection committee, which included employees as well as community experts from outside of Facebook, evaluated the applications and in the end 5 Community leaders were selected.

Furthermore, the program will consist of 100 fellows and youth participants that are to receive up to $50,000 each to be used for their community initiative. This group includes leaders with diverse perspectives from different parts of the world, but they share a common goal of helping their communities thrive.

Representing Pakistan at the Facebook Community Leadership Program are Nadia Patel Gangjee (Sheops) and Kanwal Ahmed (Soul Sisters Pakistan). A total of 116 participants have been selected from all over the world.

Furthermore, Facebook had also announced Facebook partnership with Idea Croron Ka, a reality show that gives entrepreneurs the opportunity to pitch their ideas to potential investors. The collaborations will feature Pakistan’s most promising Facebook community group leaders featured in the latest season of Idea Croron Ka over the span of six episodes. At the show the community leaders will get to share their plans and vision for their communities with a national audience. In order to bring their vision to life, each community leader is also to receive a grant of up to USD$20,000.

The six community leaders that will be featured on Idea Croron Ka are: Binish Umair, Karachi Schools Guide; Saba Mohsin Shaikh, Karachi Chefs at Home; Asma Omer, Marham; Rabia Aziz-Rizvi, Special Needs Pakistan; Kanwal Ahmed, Soul Sisters Pakistan; and Nadia Patel Gangjee, Sheops.
