World Bank Pakistan has announced the second edition of its online contest aimed at young economists, inviting graduate-level students and recent graduates to apply for a unique two-month paid opportunity. The selected candidate will join the Economic Policy Team at the World Bank Pakistan Office, contributing directly to the analysis and preparation of the upcoming ‘Pakistan Development Update’ report scheduled for release in October 2025.

This initiative is designed to offer aspiring economists a hands-on opportunity to understand the workings of the World Bank and contribute to key economic research in the country. The immersive engagement allows one selected individual to work closely with the Bank’s team on the flagship bi-annual report, gaining valuable insight into policy formulation and development analysis. The experience will be formally recognized in the report, and the participant will receive a certificate of completion from the World Bank.

To participate, interested applicants are required to fill out a short questionnaire outlining their academic background and submit a two-minute video. In the video, candidates are expected to share what drives them to work in the development sector and discuss three major reforms or innovative ideas they believe can transform Pakistan’s development path. Applicants must also explain how they envision their own role in implementing these changes.

The contest is open to those who have an academic background in economics or public policy and are either currently enrolled in or have recently completed a Master’s or PhD program, with up to two years post-graduation. The application process is being promoted via World Bank Pakistan’s official social media platforms, including World Bank Pakistan X and Facebook.

The selection process will be conducted in two stages. Initially, applicants will be longlisted based on academic relevance and professional alignment. From this pool, eight candidates will be shortlisted based on the quality and originality of their video submissions. These shortlisted individuals will then be invited to a virtual conversation with members of the World Bank staff. The discussion aims to evaluate the depth of the applicants’ academic and professional perspectives, as well as their ability to contribute meaningfully to the economic policy work being undertaken.

This paid program stands as a significant opportunity for young professionals aiming to develop a career in economic development. It provides exposure to high-level policy work and the chance to be part of an international organization committed to supporting Pakistan’s growth trajectory. For updates and further details, interested applicants are encouraged to follow World Bank Pakistan on social media and visit the official country website.
