Pakistan’s homegrown weather intelligence platform WeatherWalay has rolled out a dedicated road-travel advisory feature called “Weather on the Way,” developed in collaboration with One Network. The feature was officially inaugurated by Federal Minister Mussadiq Malik, with the Islamabad–Lahore Motorway serving as the initial launch route for what is being positioned as a practical, data-driven road safety tool for the country’s motorway network.

The newly launched feature is embedded within the WeatherWalay application and is built around a network of more than 300 ground stations spread across Pakistan, including coverage in remote and underserved regions that have historically lacked reliable meteorological data. This ground-level infrastructure allows the platform to deliver hyper-local weather conditions rather than relying on broad regional forecasts, which can often be misleading for drivers navigating long stretches of highway where conditions can shift dramatically within short distances. The feature provides real-time advisories on a range of weather-related hazards that are particularly prevalent on Pakistan’s motorways, including dense fog, heavy rainfall, dust storms, and heatwave conditions, all of which have historically contributed to road accidents and traffic disruptions across major national corridors.

Beyond basic weather alerts, “Weather on the Way” also integrates visibility monitoring and Air Quality Index readings into its interface, two parameters that carry direct relevance for motorway safety in Pakistan. Fog-related accidents during winter months have long been a serious concern on routes such as the Motorway M-2 and M-3, and the inclusion of real-time visibility data is intended to give drivers actionable information before they begin their journey or while already on the road. The Air Quality Index component adds another layer of utility, particularly for travellers in regions where industrial activity or seasonal dust can affect both health and driving conditions simultaneously. The feature is designed to send instant push notifications when conditions deteriorate, allowing users to make informed decisions about whether to delay travel or take alternate routes.

WeatherWalay’s partnership with One Network underpins the technical backbone of this rollout, with the collaboration enabling broader data integration and real-time alert dissemination across the platform. While the Islamabad–Lahore Motorway has been selected as the launch corridor, the feature is designed to scale across Pakistan’s expanding motorway network as ground station coverage continues to grow. The WeatherWalay application is currently available for download on the Google Play Store, giving Android users across the country immediate access to the feature ahead of a broader rollout.
