Kaan Terzioglu, Chief Executive Officer and Board Member of VEON Group, has praised Mobilink Bank’s sustainability progress following a visit to the institution in Pakistan, during which he reviewed the bank’s digital-first operating model, customer-centric innovations, and environmental, social, and governance-led strategy. More than one-third of Mobilink Bank’s nationwide branch network is now powered by renewable energy, a milestone that positions the bank among the more meaningfully committed financial institutions in Pakistan on the question of decarbonising its operations, and one that Terzioglu described as both timely and impactful in the context of responsible growth in emerging markets.
Mobilink Bank’s environmental, social, and governance strategy spans several interconnected pillars. On the financing side, the bank has deployed PKR 2.9 billion in green financing directed at accelerating the adoption of clean energy and green mobility solutions, including solar systems and electric bike financing for underserved segments of the population. The operational transition to renewable energy across 35 percent of its branch network is being complemented by the construction of a data-driven decarbonisation framework through an automated environmental, social, and governance platform, with baseline emissions measured at 4,489 metric tons of carbon dioxide, establishing a transparent foundation for long-term reduction targets. Haaris Mahmood Chaudhary, President and Chief Executive Officer of Mobilink Bank, said that sustainability is not a parallel agenda for the institution but rather the engine of its growth, describing the bank as building Pakistan’s leading institution for small businesses through a model that is digital-first, environmentally driven, and structured for long-term impact.
The bank’s social inclusion commitments are equally substantive. Mobilink Bank enabled over 31,000 women through targeted financial inclusion programmes in 2025 and is supporting a gross loan portfolio of PKR 50.30 billion to expand equitable access to finance for small businesses. Community development initiatives include the solarisation of a Digital Arts Laboratory at Khatoon-e-Pakistan Government Girls School in partnership with Zindagi Trust, benefiting 310 students, and a clean water initiative improving access for over 1,000 students. Terzioglu noted that the scale at which Mobilink Bank is advancing green financing alongside expanding digital financial access highlights its commitment to responsible growth, calling it a strong example of how financial institutions can support initiatives that are simultaneously beneficial to the environment and productive for economic growth in emerging markets.
