Uplift AI, a Pakistan-born artificial intelligence startup specializing in voice technology, has raised $3.5 million in seed funding, marking one of the largest early-stage AI investments tied to the country’s growing tech ecosystem. The funding round was led by Y Combinator and Indus Valley Capital, with participation from Pioneer Fund, Conjunction, Moment Ventures, and several Silicon Valley angel investors. This investment will support the company’s mission to develop voice AI models tailored for regional languages, enabling users to interact with technology using Urdu, Punjabi, Balochi, and other native languages.

Co-founded by Zaid Qureshi and Hammad Malik, former engineers at Apple and Amazon, Uplift AI aims to close the language gap by offering speech recognition, text-to-speech, and conversational AI APIs designed for local languages. The startup focuses on creating tools that adapt to the way people communicate rather than forcing users to adjust to keyboards and screens. Positioned as foundational infrastructure rather than a single consumer application, Uplift AI enables governments, educators, enterprises, and developers to layer voice interfaces onto existing products without building language models from scratch, reducing the technical barrier for deploying localized AI experiences.

Uplift AI has already demonstrated real-world traction despite being an early-stage startup. Khan Academy has used its technology to publish 2,500 educational videos in Urdu, extending learning opportunities to students who prefer spoken explanations over written English. In agriculture, Syngenta is leveraging Uplift AI’s voice-based tools to provide farmers with guidance through spoken instructions, catering to communities where smartphones are accessible but literacy challenges remain. More than 1,000 developers are currently building on Uplift AI’s APIs, reflecting strong demand for localized voice solutions among startups and product teams. Investors view the company as essential infrastructure with potential applications across industries and regions, as voice-first AI is expected to drive the next phase of global AI adoption.

While Pakistan remains a primary focus, Uplift AI plans to expand into other language markets globally, applying its voice-first approach to regions with similar accessibility and inclusion challenges. The roadmap includes broader language coverage, particularly in the MENA region, deeper conversational intelligence, and integration with education platforms, public-sector services, and enterprise workflows. All technology has been developed in-house, including data gathering, labeling, and model training, since off-the-shelf solutions often fail to accurately capture regional languages. This strategy positions Uplift AI to provide high-quality, scalable voice AI solutions for users worldwide, supporting more natural, inclusive, and accessible digital interactions.
