TWA Partners with Huawei to Upgrade Long-Haul Internet Network with 400G ROADM Technology

Transworld Associates (TWA) has partnered with global technology leader Huawei to significantly upgrade its Long-Haul Transport Network infrastructure across Pakistan. The collaboration aims to strengthen the country’s internet backbone by deploying advanced ROADM-based CDF (Colorless, Directionless, and Flexgrid) technology, which marks a major leap in national data transmission capabilities.

This strategic agreement reflects a shared commitment to enhance the quality, reliability, and capacity of internet services across Pakistan. The adoption of this next-generation network infrastructure will support 400G and beyond per wavelength, ensuring greater bandwidth efficiency and future scalability. According to TWA, the upgraded network will be capable of handling bandwidth exceeding 25.6 terabits per second (Tb/s), providing a robust foundation for the rapidly growing demand for high-speed internet services in both metropolitan and remote regions of the country.

ROADM-based CDF technology enables more flexible, dynamic, and efficient routing of data traffic over long distances, reducing latency while increasing transmission capacity. This deployment will also prepare the network for future L-band expansion, enabling additional capacity on existing fiber routes without the need for laying new fiber. Such scalability is essential as Pakistan’s internet consumption continues to grow, fueled by data-heavy applications such as video streaming, cloud computing, remote work solutions, and the rise of 5G services.

By leveraging Huawei’s optical transport technology, TWA aims to optimize Pakistan’s internet ecosystem, ensuring seamless connectivity for businesses, educational institutions, government departments, and everyday users. The infrastructure upgrade is expected to significantly reduce service disruptions, improve fault tolerance, and offer a more resilient communication backbone, which is essential for supporting digital services at scale.

TWA has been at the forefront of providing international bandwidth and IP transit services in Pakistan, and this latest development reaffirms its role as a key enabler in the country’s digital infrastructure landscape. The new system architecture, enabled by Huawei’s high-performance optical platforms, ensures that the upgraded network is ready to accommodate the explosive demand for digital connectivity in the coming years.

The project is also aligned with broader national ambitions for digital transformation, as increased bandwidth capacity and faster internet access are foundational elements for economic growth, tech innovation, and social inclusion. With improved data transmission capabilities, the network can better serve not just urban centers but also support connectivity expansion into underserved and rural areas.
