Telecom Operators Association (TOA) has vehemently opposed the proposed dissolution of the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT), warning of severe repercussions for the industry and the economy.

In a strongly worded letter to the IT minister, TOA highlighted the ministry’s pivotal role in shaping Pakistan’s telecom landscape, attracting billions in investment, and generating substantial revenue for the government.

The association argued that MoITT’s specialized expertise is indispensable for navigating the complexities of the sector. Its absence could lead to policy inconsistencies, deter foreign investment, and hinder the country’s digital transformation efforts.

The TOA emphasized that the ministry is essential for maintaining international commitments, fostering innovation, and ensuring a stable regulatory environment. It warned that dissolving the ministry could jeopardize ongoing projects, disrupt businesses, and erode public confidence in Pakistan’s commitment to the IT and telecom sector.

The association called on the government to reconsider the decision, emphasizing the need for a dedicated policymaking body to drive the sector’s growth and contribute to the country’s economic development.
