Tech Valley Pakistan has continued its Digital Pasban Town Halls in Karachi, bringing together parents, teachers and school leadership for discussions on children’s online safety and digital well-being. The sessions were held at the Discovery Centre by Beaconhouse Group and focused on helping families and educators guide children towards safer and more responsible use of digital platforms. Participants were introduced to the Digital Pasban Toolkit, which provides practical tools and guidance for developing healthier digital habits at home. The town halls provided an opportunity for parents and educators to discuss online risks, understand available safety features and share their experiences of managing children’s digital activities. Through these discussions, Tech Valley aims to increase awareness of the role parents and teachers can play in helping children navigate online spaces while maintaining a healthy relationship with technology.
The Digital Pasban Toolkit introduced during the sessions includes several tools designed to support different aspects of children’s online experiences. Family Link was presented as a way for parents to manage screen time and control access to applications, allowing families to establish boundaries around device usage. The sessions also covered YouTube Shorts, highlighting well-being controls that can support healthier viewing habits. Another component, Be Internet Awesome, focuses on developing children’s digital citizenship and online safety skills, helping them understand responsible behaviour in online environments. SafeSearch was also introduced as a feature that can help filter explicit content in Google Search. Together, these tools offer parents practical options for managing children’s digital experiences, from application access and viewing habits to online awareness and search safety.
Tech Valley said the town halls combined practical guidance with open discussions, allowing parents and educators to explore ways of supporting children’s online safety. Questions and shared experiences from participants highlighted the importance of informed parental guidance and healthy digital habits within families. The sessions also brought attention to the role of school leadership and teachers in promoting digital well-being beyond the home environment. As children increasingly interact with online platforms for learning, entertainment and communication, parents and educators need to understand the controls and resources available to guide their usage. The Digital Pasban initiative seeks to make these tools more accessible by introducing families to practical features that can be incorporated into everyday digital routines. The Karachi sessions form part of Tech Valley’s continuing efforts to engage educational institutions and communities on responsible technology use.
Digital Pasban is part of Tech Valley and Google’s stated goal of reaching more than 200,000 Pakistani households with online safety awareness and resources. The organisation has invited educational institutions interested in hosting future town halls to contact its team through its website, hello@techvalley.pk or by calling 0333 5306444. By extending the sessions to more institutes, the initiative aims to involve additional parents and educators in conversations about children’s digital well-being. Its focus on practical tools, family guidance and school participation places parents and teachers at the centre of efforts to create safer online experiences for children. Further town halls are expected to provide more families with opportunities to learn about available digital safety features and develop habits that support responsible internet use.
