Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) on Wednesday, during the 7-day long event; the World Space Week, announced that Pakistan’s first remote sensing satellite PRSS-1 is all set to launch in March 2018. This news comes as big relief for many broadcasting networks as after the launch, Pakistani companies won’t have to pay huge sums of money to foreign space companies for satellite dependent data.

Ayaz Aziz Member of Range and Instrumentation (R&I) was invited as chief guest at the ceremony which was held at the National Center for Remote Sensing & Geo-Informatics. While speaking about the launch of the satellite, he said

“Our first optical remote sensing satellite PRSS-1 is all set to be launched in 2018 with which Pakistan will become self-reliant in multispectral imaging thus saving a huge foreign exchange on account of satellite imagery and satellite-based monitoring of various national projects. Our communication satellite Paksat-1R is up and running with efficient provision of communication and broadcast services throughout the country and neighboring regions.”

Since the 1999 UN declaration, the World Space Week has emerged as the largest public space event on Earth, with more than 2,700 events in 86+ countries celebrating the benefits of space and excitement about space exploration.

For the year 2017, the new theme was “Exploring New Worlds In Space”, aiming to inspire even more events around the world in October 2017.

“The General Assembly declares 4 to 10 October World Space Week to celebrate each year at the international level the contributions of space science and technology to the betterment of the human condition”
