The Sindh government held a distribution ceremony at a hotel in Hyderabad, handing over 200 free pink electric scooters to female students and working women as part of the province’s ongoing Pink Electric Vehicle Scooty Scheme managed by the Sindh Mass Transit Authority. Senior Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon attended the event as Chief Guest and personally handed over the scooters to the selected beneficiaries, with the ceremony also attended by Member of Provincial Assembly Imdad Pitafi, Hyderabad Deputy Mayor Sagheer Qureshi, Sindh Mass Transit Authority Managing Director Salimullah Odho, the Hyderabad Deputy Inspector General, the Hyderabad Deputy Commissioner, the Hyderabad Senior Superintendent of Police, and other officials.
Speaking at the ceremony, Memon said the initiative aims to facilitate female students, working women, and women associated with business activities by providing them with safe and independent transportation, adding that the distribution process was conducted without any political, ethnic, or linguistic consideration. He said that no other government in Pakistan is providing pink electric vehicle scooters free of charge, and confirmed that along with the scooters, the Sindh government is also providing helmets, licences, and riding training free of cost to all beneficiaries. The women selected under the programme had already completed driving courses and hold valid driving licences before receiving their vehicles, ensuring that recipients are road-ready from the outset rather than receiving the scooters without the skills or documentation needed to use them safely.
The Hyderabad distribution follows successful rollouts in Karachi and Sukkur, with the provincial cabinet having approved plans to distribute up to 1,000 pink electric scooters under the scheme across Sindh. Memon also noted that previously only 150 women in Sindh held motorbike licences, while now 20,000 women have applied for driving licences, a figure that reflects the scale of behavioural and attitudinal shift the Pink Scooty Scheme and related provincial transport initiatives have sparked among women in the province since the programme began. The Sindh government has also warned citizens against fraudulent social media posts and fake advertisements claiming to offer registration for the scheme in exchange for fees or personal documents, clarifying that the real scheme is entirely free of charge and conducted exclusively through verified government channels under the Sindh Mass Transit Authority.
