Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif led a high-level meeting on Friday to address a range of illegal activities, where key decisions were made including the approval of smart meter installation to combat power theft.
The meeting, attended by members of the federal cabinet, Chief of the Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir, provincial chief ministers, and top government officials, focused on tackling criminal activities such as smuggling, hoarding, money laundering, and power theft, as stated by the Press Information Department.
Participants were briefed extensively on the measures taken against criminal mafias and their detrimental impact on the economy and the well-being of Pakistani citizens. The meeting emphasized the need for immediate action against smugglers, hoarders, and market manipulators to provide relief to the general public and ensure economic stability.
Agreements were approved among federal and provincial governments regarding anti-power theft policies, the modern restructuring of power distribution companies, and the deployment of smart meters to completely eliminate power theft. Strict measures against corrupt officials were also ordered.
The army chief reaffirmed the Pakistan Army’s steadfast commitment to supporting the government’s economic recovery initiatives. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif concluded the meeting by urging all stakeholders to diligently pursue various initiatives against illegal activities and criminal mafias to achieve set objectives within the designated timeframe.
