Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) and Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) have formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening data sharing, digital collaboration, and capacity building between the two institutions. The agreement, signed during DataFest 2025 held at the Pak-China Center in Islamabad, reflects a commitment to modernizing information exchange and supporting evidence-based decision-making across Pakistan’s economic and regulatory landscape. The MoU provides a structured framework for secure, automated sharing of verified information and reinforces both organizations’ dedication to enhancing transparency, accuracy, and timeliness of business and economic data.

Under the agreement, SECP and PBS will collaborate to develop systems for exchanging datasets through digital platforms, APIs, and traditional communication channels, ensuring compliance with national data protection laws. This approach is designed to provide researchers, policymakers, and government institutions with timely and reliable data to inform decisions across sectors. By facilitating the flow of accurate corporate and business information, PBS will be better positioned to compile national accounts, conduct statistical analyses, and generate high-quality reports, while SECP will benefit from strengthened mechanisms for monitoring corporate compliance and regulatory trends. The MoU also includes a focus on building institutional capacity through knowledge-sharing workshops, technical assistance, and joint training programs.

Officials from both organizations emphasized that this partnership aligns with Pakistan’s broader digital transformation strategy, enabling a more data-driven governance framework. By leveraging technology to streamline information exchange, SECP and PBS aim to reduce manual processes, enhance operational efficiency, and foster collaboration across public institutions. The initiative will also support the country’s economic planning, allowing policymakers to utilize richer, more accurate datasets in designing fiscal, industrial, and trade strategies. Experts note that integrating digital platforms for data sharing not only improves transparency but also strengthens public confidence in regulatory and statistical systems.

The MoU is expected to lay the foundation for long-term cooperation between SECP and PBS, creating opportunities for future initiatives focused on innovation, economic development, and digital governance. Both institutions plan to monitor the implementation of the agreement closely, ensuring that technical infrastructure, operational protocols, and data-sharing practices evolve in line with international standards. By enhancing access to reliable information, the collaboration aims to support informed decision-making, promote accountability, and foster a culture of transparency that benefits stakeholders across Pakistan’s public and private sectors. The partnership also underscores a commitment to transforming Pakistan’s governance ecosystem into a modern, technology-enabled environment that can respond efficiently to emerging economic and regulatory challenges.

Through this MoU, SECP and PBS are setting an example of institutional collaboration that leverages technology to improve the quality of data, strengthen national planning, and enable inclusive growth. The agreement marks a significant step in Pakistan’s journey toward digital governance, demonstrating how strategic partnerships can enhance efficiency, accountability, and innovation in public administration.
