All education offices and government schools in Rawalpindi district have been directed to install CCTV cameras and biometric attendance systems on an urgent basis, according to final directives issued by the Rawalpindi District Education Authority. The decision was made during a meeting chaired by Rawalpindi Commissioner Salman Ghani, where installation of the surveillance and attendance systems was declared a top priority requiring immediate action across the district.
Following the meeting, the Chief Executive Officer of the District Education Authority directed district education officers responsible for both secondary and elementary education, covering male and female wings, to ensure the installations move forward without delay. All education officers and heads of institutions have been given three days to submit compliance reports confirming that the systems have been put in place, with officials warning of strict action against any school or office that fails to meet the deadline.
Heads of individual boys and girls schools have separately been instructed to complete their installations within twenty four hours and submit compliance reports accordingly, indicating a more urgent timeline for schools compared to the broader three day window given to district education officers overseeing multiple institutions. This distinction suggests the authority wants immediate implementation at the school level while allowing administrative offices slightly more time to coordinate compliance reporting across their jurisdictions.
Officials described biometric attendance and monitoring systems as having become essential tools for the education sector, framing the directive as part of a broader effort to modernize record keeping and improve accountability within schools. The Punjab School Education Pensioners Association welcomed the decision, expressing support for the installation of CCTV cameras across educational institutions in the district. The move reflects a growing trend among provincial education authorities in Pakistan to adopt digital monitoring tools as a means of improving oversight, reducing administrative gaps, and ensuring more consistent tracking of attendance and security across government run schools.
