Samsung has announced a new OLED laptop display that has earned VESA’s latest DisplayHDR True Black 1400 certification, with the company confirming it is already supplying the panel to laptop manufacturers. The new display standard, introduced by VESA a few weeks earlier, raises the brightness requirement by 40 percent over the previous top tier standard, requiring certified displays to reach up to 1,400 nits under specific test conditions.
To meet this benchmark, the display must maintain deep black levels of 0.0005 nits or lower while simultaneously delivering 1,400 nits of brightness with a 10 percent on pixel ratio, meaning only a tenth of the screen shows white pixels while the remaining ninety percent stays black. Samsung achieved these results through a tandem OLED design that stacks two OLED panels on top of each other, a structure that allows the display to reach higher peak brightness levels while also improving overall panel durability, since splitting the workload across two layers reduces the stress each individual layer faces during normal use. Samsung says the new tandem panel can last more than twice as long as a comparable single stack OLED panel, an improvement the company attributes partly to new organic emissive materials incorporated into the design.
The technology has already reached the market through Lenovo’s eleventh generation Yoga Pro 9i Aura Edition, which features a 16 inch touchscreen with 3.2K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, marketed under Lenovo’s PureSight Pro Tandem OLED branding. The panel carries the DisplayHDR True Black 1400 certification and reaches a peak brightness of 1,600 nits, while covering the full sRGB and DCI-P3 color spaces along with 99 percent of AdobeRGB, specifications aimed at creative professionals and other users who depend on accurate color reproduction. The laptop itself offers a choice between Intel Core Ultra 7 and Core Ultra 9 processors, along with Nvidia GeForce RTX 5050 or RTX 5060 laptop graphics cards, both paired with 8GB of video memory, 32GB of soldered LPDDR5X system memory, and either 512GB or 1TB of PCIe Gen 4 storage, all within a 17.2 millimeter thick chassis weighing 1.9 kilograms and powered by a 92.5Wh battery.
Samsung’s tandem OLED panel is not expected to remain exclusive to Lenovo, with Asus, Dell and MSI also expected to introduce laptops using the same display technology during the second half of the year. Samsung plans to showcase the panel further at K-Display 2026, taking place in Seoul from July 22 to July 24, as the broader laptop display market continues moving toward higher brightness levels and longer panel lifespans without sacrificing the deep contrast that OLED technology is known for.
