The Punjab government has approved the establishment of a Tier-4 Data Center in collaboration with China. This strategic move aims to position Pakistan as a regional hub for data storage and processing.
The announcement was made by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz during a meeting to review the progress of the Central Business District (CBD) Nawaz Sharif IT City project. The Chief Minister emphasized the significance of the IT City as a catalyst for technological advancement and education.
To further solidify the IT City’s position as a global tech hub, universities from China, England, and other countries are planning to establish campuses within the project. Notable institutions such as Tang, Xurt, and Baifang Institute of Vocational Education have already expressed interest. Additionally, discussions are underway with Buckinghamshire University and Imperial College London for potential campus setups.
The government also plans to establish an Artificial Intelligence and Information Technology University in collaboration with international institutions. This university will play a pivotal role in nurturing the next generation of tech talent and driving innovation in the country.
The Chief Minister stressed the importance of accelerating the development of the Nawaz Sharif IT City Twin Towers, a flagship project of the IT City. She directed all stakeholders to expedite the construction process and ensure timely completion.
By establishing a Tier-4 Data Center and attracting renowned international universities, the Punjab government aims to create a thriving tech ecosystem that will contribute to Pakistan’s economic growth and digital transformation.
