PTA has successfully concluded a two day capacity building training program on telecommunication equipment standardization, electromagnetic compatibility testing, and regulatory compliance in collaboration with Rohde and Schwarz Pakistan. The training was held at PTA Headquarters in Islamabad and brought together technical professionals and regulatory stakeholders to strengthen understanding of international compliance frameworks and testing methodologies used in the telecom sector.

The training focused on global best practices in conformity assessment for telecommunication equipment, with particular emphasis on electromagnetic compatibility standards that ensure devices operate without causing or being affected by electromagnetic interference. Participants were provided in depth exposure to EMC testing procedures, including the use of specialized test chambers and Open Area Test Sites for accurate performance evaluation. The program also covered ISO certification processes and the technical requirements associated with radio frequency health and safety testing, including Specific Absorption Rate assessments that are critical for user safety in wireless communication devices.

Experts from Rohde and Schwarz shared technical insights on modern testing environments and compliance workflows that align with international regulatory expectations. The sessions highlighted how standardized testing frameworks support product quality, network reliability, and consumer safety while enabling smoother market access for telecom equipment manufacturers. The training also addressed the growing complexity of telecom technologies and the need for regulators to remain aligned with evolving global standards to effectively oversee next generation communication systems.

Chairman PTA Major General R Hafeez Ur Rehman HI M SI emphasized the importance of strict compliance with standards issued by ITU, IEC, and ETSI to ensure the safety, performance, and quality of telecommunication equipment deployed across Pakistan. He noted that strengthening institutional capacity in testing and certification is essential for maintaining public trust and supporting the country’s expanding digital infrastructure. PTA reaffirmed its commitment to developing a transparent, robust, and globally aligned regulatory framework that supports innovation while safeguarding consumer interests and national telecom networks.

The collaboration reflects PTA’s ongoing efforts under the Digital Pakistan vision to enhance regulatory expertise and adopt international best practices in technology governance. By working closely with global technology partners such as Rohde and Schwarz, PTA aims to modernize regulatory processes, improve technical oversight, and ensure that telecom equipment used in Pakistan meets internationally recognized benchmarks for quality and safety.
