Dead mobile phone batteries are no longer an immediate concern for citizens in Lahore, as Punjab Safe Cities Authority has officially launched its Emergency Free Mobile Phone Charging Service across the city. The service was inaugurated today and has already been activated at 30 high footfall locations, marking a new addition to Lahore’s public safety and digital infrastructure. The initiative is designed to ensure that citizens remain connected during critical moments, particularly in situations where uninterrupted communication can play a vital role in personal safety and emergency response.

According to a PSCA spokesperson, the newly launched charging points are part of a broader concept described as integrated Safety Zones rather than standalone facilities. Each location has been designed to provide multiple public safety services in one place. Along with emergency free mobile phone charging ports, these zones are equipped with panic buttons that allow citizens to immediately alert authorities during distress situations. The sites also provide access to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Free Wi-Fi, enabling users to stay connected even if they are facing connectivity issues. In addition, the zones are covered by round the clock CCTV surveillance, reinforcing security and enabling real time monitoring by PSCA control rooms.

The authority emphasized that the initiative goes beyond convenience and is rooted in public safety objectives. Ensuring that citizens can power their phones during emergencies is seen as essential for accessing help, contacting family members, or using navigation and ride hailing services. The presence of panic buttons and surveillance further strengthens the sense of security in busy public areas such as markets, transport hubs, and commercial centers. PSCA officials noted that citizens have already begun using the facilities, reflecting immediate public demand for such services in a city where smartphones play a central role in daily life.

PSCA has confirmed that this is only the initial phase of the project. Plans are already underway to expand the Emergency Free Mobile Phone Charging and Safety Zones to 100 locations across Lahore in the near future. Site selection for upcoming installations is based on detailed assessments of public needs, convenience, and crowd density. Authorities analyze foot traffic patterns and local requirements to ensure that the facilities are placed where they can deliver the most impact. This targeted approach is intended to maximize both usage and effectiveness while supporting broader urban safety goals.

The launch aligns with the Punjab government’s emphasis on smart city initiatives and citizen centric digital services. PSCA described the project as an important milestone in Lahore’s evolving public safety framework, combining technology with on ground infrastructure to address everyday challenges faced by residents. By integrating charging access, connectivity, emergency response tools, and surveillance within a single setup, the authority aims to create safer public spaces while improving the overall urban experience. As the expansion progresses, these Safety Zones are expected to become a familiar part of Lahore’s landscape, supporting residents, commuters, and visitors alike.
