Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to expanding Pakistan’s IT sector, emphasizing the country’s skilled workforce and its ability to compete in the global market. In a high-level meeting on Monday, the Prime Minister engaged with a four-member delegation led by Jerome Kapelus, CEO of the US-based multinational IT company, Afiniti, discussing investment opportunities and strategic initiatives to drive the industry forward. The meeting, held at the PM’s Office, underscored Pakistan’s ambitions to position itself as a leading player in the global technology landscape.
During the discussion, the Prime Minister highlighted the immense potential of Pakistan’s IT professionals, stressing that the government is actively facilitating companies to meet the ambitious target of $25 billion in IT exports. He acknowledged Afiniti’s interest in expanding its operations in Pakistan and encouraged the company to establish a world-class call center catering to both local and international clients. This initiative, he noted, would not only enhance service delivery but also create employment opportunities for skilled professionals within the country.
The Prime Minister further emphasized his personal involvement in initiatives designed to equip Pakistan’s youth with cutting-edge skills in IT, artificial intelligence, and other advanced technologies. He reiterated that the government is committed to fostering a business-friendly environment, offering incentives and support mechanisms to ensure sustainable growth in the IT sector. Minister of State for IT, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, along with senior officials from relevant institutions, also participated in the meeting, reinforcing the government’s focus on strengthening the technology ecosystem.
Jerome Kapelus, speaking on behalf of Afiniti, lauded the expertise and dedication of Pakistani IT professionals, acknowledging the country’s strong potential as an investment destination. He noted that the local IT sector provides a conducive environment for business growth and highlighted that Afiniti Pakistan currently employs over 1,000 skilled professionals. The presence of such a large and competent workforce, he stated, reflects Pakistan’s ability to make significant contributions to the global IT landscape.
Kapelus further expressed optimism about future collaborations and the role Pakistan can play in shaping the future of technology. He pointed out that the country’s talent pool, combined with government support and a rapidly expanding digital infrastructure, makes it an attractive market for international tech firms looking to scale their operations.
