Pakistani travel technology startup Bookme has entered into a strategic partnership with the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah to enable instant, fully digital Umrah visa processing for Pakistani pilgrims, in what marks a significant shift in how one of the largest pilgrim-sending countries in the world accesses the Kingdom’s pilgrimage services. The deal, announced this week, allows Bookme to issue Umrah visas directly through its platform via a real-time system integrated with Saudi government infrastructure, requiring no human intervention, no manual processing, and no physical documentation or in-person visits. The partnership was formalised at the Umrah and Ziyarah Forum held in Madinah from March 30 to April 1, an annual gathering of global Hajj and Umrah stakeholders, and the solution went live during the final ten days of Ramadan 2026, with visas actively issued through the platform during that period.
The initiative was implemented in collaboration with Elm Company, a key Saudi national digital infrastructure provider, and the resulting system has been described by Bookme as a one-click experience backed directly by Saudi authorities. The service is accessible through Bookme’s website, mobile applications, and a network of integrated partner platforms including banking and financial technology applications, ensuring that the reach of the service extends well beyond Bookme’s direct user base. For Pakistani pilgrims, the implications are considerable. Pakistan ranks among the largest source markets for Umrah globally, and the traditional process of obtaining Umrah visas has long relied on intermediaries, travel agents, and manual documentation chains that add cost, delay, and opacity to what should be a straightforward process. The introduction of direct digital visa issuance is expected to reduce that reliance on middlemen, lower overall costs for consumers, and give pilgrims greater flexibility to select from a wider range of hotels, tours, and Ziyarah experiences at market-driven pricing.
Bookme founder and Chief Executive Officer Faizan Aslam said the partnership would fundamentally change how Pakistani pilgrims access Umrah by making the process instant, direct, and completely frictionless, powered by full automation integrated with Saudi authorities. He also confirmed that several additional initiatives are already in development as part of the long-term collaboration with Saudi stakeholders. The initiative aligns closely with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 framework, which places the digitisation of pilgrimage services among its central objectives as the Kingdom seeks to scale Umrah capacity significantly over the coming years. For Bookme, the partnership represents a meaningful expansion of its footprint beyond domestic travel and mobility services into the cross-border religious tourism sector, positioning the company as a key digital gateway between Pakistani pilgrims and the infrastructure of one of the world’s most significant religious journeys.
