Pakistan Single Window has been declared one of three global winners of the Asia-Pacific Trade Facilitation Innovation Awards 2026, in a recognition presented during Paperless Trade Week 2026 in Bangkok, a high-level forum jointly organised by the Asian Development Bank and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific under the theme of Next Generation Trade Digitalization. The award was received by Syed Aftab Haider, Chief Executive Officer of Pakistan Single Window, on behalf of the organisation and Pakistan, marking a significant moment of international validation for the country’s digital trade facilitation infrastructure.
Pakistan Single Window secured the award for the successful design, development, and implementation of the Integrated Risk Management System, a platform that represents a structural shift in how Pakistan manages the clearance of inbound and outbound cargo at the border. Rather than subjecting all trade consignments to manual inspection, the Integrated Risk Management System functions as an intelligent automated engine that evaluates every trade declaration against predefined regulatory rules, risk-scoring models, and artificial intelligence-driven analytics. The system automatically assigns each consignment to the appropriate clearance channel without human intervention, instantly identifying high-risk shipments that require strict regulatory assessment while allowing the vast majority of legitimate, low-risk trade to proceed without unnecessary delays. This approach concentrates national enforcement resources precisely where vulnerabilities exist while giving compliant businesses faster and more predictable trade processes.
A distinctive feature of the Integrated Risk Management System is its legal foundation. Unlike many trade technology platforms that operate as advisory tools, the system is legally enforced under the Pakistan Single Window Act, 2021, with its comprehensive rules officially notified as a Statutory Regulatory Order. This creates a uniform, binding legal and operational framework that applies equally across all cross-border regulatory agencies in Pakistan, eliminating bureaucratic silos that have historically allowed inconsistent application of risk assessment criteria across different parts of the border management system. Throughout Paperless Trade Week, Pakistan Single Window showcased its suite of digital trade solutions at a dedicated pavilion in Bangkok, engaging with international delegates and demonstrating how its technical architecture minimises dependence on paper-based processes.
Syed Aftab Haider said the recognition was a proud moment not just for Pakistan Single Window but for Pakistan’s public and IT sectors as a whole, describing the award as a direct reflection of the team’s dedication to transforming cross-border trade through digital trust. He noted that with the Integrated Risk Management System, Pakistan Single Window had successfully evolved a fragmented operational function into a structured, accountable, and sustainable national capability, and stated that Pakistan was now actively setting global benchmarks in trade facilitation. The Asia-Pacific award follows Pakistan Single Window’s earlier Memorandum of Understanding with the National Information Technology Board under the Digital Economy Enhancement Project, and reinforces PSW’s growing position as a reference institution for trade digitalization across the region.
