Pakistan’s services exports recorded significant growth during the first seven months of the fiscal year 2025 to 2026, supported largely by rising demand for information technology related services. Official data shows the sector continuing to outperform traditional commodity exports, highlighting the growing importance of digital and knowledge based industries in the country’s external trade performance.

According to statistics compiled by Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, the export of services reached 5.66 billion dollars during the July to January period of the current fiscal year, compared with 4.76 billion dollars in the same period a year earlier. This represents an increase of 18.78 percent year on year. The services sector has maintained steady momentum since the beginning of the fiscal year, even as merchandise exports displayed mixed performance due to fluctuations in global demand and commodity markets.

Monthly export figures show consistent growth throughout the period under review. Services exports expanded by 18.27 percent in July, followed by an 8.41 percent increase in August. The upward trend continued with growth of 14.85 percent in September, 17.61 percent in October, and 22.26 percent in November. December recorded a further rise of 15.94 percent while January posted the highest increase of the period at 31.12 percent compared with the same month last year. Despite the strong annual performance, January exports declined slightly by 6.34 percent on a month to month basis.

Data indicates that telecommunication, computer, and information services have been the primary contributors to the expansion in services exports since the start of the fiscal year. In rupee terms, total services exports reached 1.593 trillion rupees during the seven month period, compared with 1.325 trillion rupees in the previous fiscal year, reflecting growth of 20.22 percent. The continued rise signals increasing global demand for Pakistan’s digital services, particularly in software development, technology consulting, and related information technology enabled services.

Figures released by State Bank of Pakistan further highlight the role of the information technology sector in this expansion. Exports of telecommunication, computer, and information services amounted to 2.61 billion dollars during July to January FY26, up from 2.18 billion dollars recorded in the same period last year, reflecting a growth rate of 19.72 percent. The performance also builds on momentum from the previous fiscal year when Pakistan’s overall services exports increased by 9.23 percent to reach 8.39 billion dollars. Industry observers note that the sustained growth reflects both rising international demand for digital services and the continued expansion of Pakistan’s technology sector in global markets.
