Pakistan has taken another step toward modernizing its visa application process with the launch of a new mobile e-visa application, aimed at simplifying travel for international visitors. The initiative, introduced by the Ministry of Interior, is designed to provide a more accessible, efficient, and user-friendly visa application process via smartphones.

The app, scheduled for official launch on January 31st, is expected to gradually replace the existing online visa application system. The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), which has played a key role in the app’s development, has completed all necessary preparations to ensure a smooth rollout. Officials believe that by integrating digital solutions, the visa process will become more convenient, allowing applicants to submit their requests, track their progress, and receive approvals directly through their mobile devices.

While specific details about the app’s functionalities are yet to be disclosed, it is anticipated that the platform will significantly reduce processing times and minimize bureaucratic hurdles for travelers. The introduction of this mobile e-visa system aligns with Pakistan’s broader strategy of promoting tourism, trade, and international engagement by easing entry procedures for foreign visitors.

The move follows the government’s earlier initiative in August 2024, when Pakistan launched the Visa on Arrival (VOA) program, also known as Visa Prior to Arrival (VPA). Under this policy, citizens from 126 countries were granted visa-free entry, a decision that contributed to a notable increase in international visitors. By removing obstacles in the visa application process, the initiative played a vital role in boosting the country’s tourism and business sectors.

With the introduction of the new mobile e-visa application, authorities hope to further enhance Pakistan’s appeal as a travel destination. The app is expected to offer a more transparent and efficient process, allowing tourists, business travelers, and expatriates to secure visas with minimal hassle. This digital transformation aligns with global trends where countries are leveraging technology to facilitate smoother immigration processes and attract foreign investment.

The Ministry of Interior has assured travelers that the app will be equipped with advanced security features to protect applicants’ data and prevent fraudulent activities. Additionally, a dedicated support team will be available to assist users with any issues they encounter during the application process. By launching this mobile e-visa system, Pakistan is signaling its commitment to modernizing its travel infrastructure and improving international perceptions of its visa policies. As the country continues to position itself as an attractive destination for global tourists and investors, the mobile e-visa application marks a significant milestone in its digital transformation efforts.
