Pakistan has successfully completed the second trial of its social media firewall, a system designed to regulate online content and safeguard national security. The firewall, which has the capability to block social media apps and restrict audio and video downloads, was tested by internet service providers across the country.
The implementation of the firewall temporarily disrupted mobile signals and internet services during the trial phase. The system is equipped with deep packet inspection technology to identify and block propaganda and harmful content.
While the government aims to ensure a secure online environment, the firewall has raised concerns about potential impacts on internet freedom and user privacy. PTA has not yet issued an official statement on the matter.
