A significant five-year agreement has been signed between Pakistan and China to facilitate the transfer of advanced technology and enhance skilled labour training across key manufacturing sectors. The agreement, formalised between Guangdong Shoe-Making Machinery Association, a Chinese government-affiliated body, and Pakistan Industrial Sewing Machines Importers and Dealers Association (PISMIDA), is aimed at upgrading Pakistan’s capabilities in footwear manufacturing, leather processing, and garment machinery. The initiative introduces modern industrial equipment and production techniques, aligning Pakistan’s manufacturing sector with current global standards.

According to PISMIDA Vice Chairman Muhammad Yaseen, the agreement focuses on not only providing access to cutting-edge machinery but also training Pakistani workers in its effective use. This move is expected to significantly enhance local technical skills and promote industrial innovation, particularly in the leather and garment production sectors. Workers will be trained according to modern requirements, enabling them to operate advanced equipment and adopt international best practices in production. The agreement is structured to help Pakistani manufacturers improve product quality, efficiency, and competitiveness in international markets.

Yaseen represented Pakistan at the international exhibition “JISMA” held in China, where he was invited as a special guest by the organisers. During the event, he participated in discussions with international commercial attachés and representatives from various associations. These high-level meetings focused on exploring bilateral collaboration opportunities and developing strategies for sustainable industrial growth. He described the agreement as a historic step that will bring substantial benefits to multiple sectors of the Pakistani economy.

Planned post-Eid-ul-Azha sessions will engage stakeholders from relevant industries to provide detailed insights into the agreement’s impact and guide them on how to utilise these new opportunities effectively. These sessions aim to ensure a smooth transition to new technologies and practices within the local manufacturing landscape.

The agreement underlines strategic cooperation and long-term partnerships between the two countries. It also includes the exchange of expert delegations and collaborative efforts in technology adoption, workforce development, and industrial management. By identifying mutual growth opportunities in both markets, the initiative aims to strengthen industrial ties between Pakistan and China while driving innovation and productivity.

Yaseen highlighted the potential of this collaboration to elevate Pakistan’s manufacturing standards. With government support, the initiative could lead to a significant technological shift in the country’s industrial ecosystem and reform vocational training programs nationwide. By embracing modern machinery and innovative processes, Pakistan’s manufacturing industry stands to benefit from increased export potential and enhanced global competitiveness.
