Pakistan and Bosnia and Herzegovina have discussed a roadmap to translate their existing science and technology cooperation into practical initiatives focused on metrology, technical expertise and institutional capacity building. The discussions took place between Bosnia and Herzegovina Ambassador to Pakistan Emin Čohodarević and Federal Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology Shahid Iqbal Baloch, as both sides explored ways to advance cooperation in science, technology and innovation. The meeting also focused on implementing a Memorandum of Understanding signed earlier this year between the Institute of Metrology of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Pakistan’s National Metrology Institute.

The MoU provides a framework for closer institutional and technical cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the field of metrology. During the meeting, the Bosnian ambassador presented his side’s roadmap for advancing the agreement, while officials discussed areas including metrology, capacity building, exchange of experts and technical collaboration. Metrology, which covers the science of measurement and the systems used to maintain accurate and reliable measurements, supports a range of technical and industrial activities. The proposed cooperation therefore provides an avenue for the two countries’ relevant institutions to exchange expertise and develop technical capabilities.

Pakistan’s Ministry of Science and Technology reaffirmed its support for implementing the agreed areas of cooperation. Shahid Iqbal Baloch said the ministry would review the proposed roadmap and coordinate with the National Metrology Institute of Pakistan to determine the next steps for implementation. The coordination is expected to help identify specific activities under the existing agreement and establish a path toward practical cooperation. Both sides also discussed opportunities to convert the existing understanding into mutually beneficial initiatives rather than limiting the engagement to institutional-level discussions.

The two countries agreed to maintain close communication and coordination to support timely progress on the planned activities. The latest discussions add a technical dimension to broader Pakistan-Bosnia and Herzegovina relations, which also include economic, educational and other areas of bilateral engagement. However, no specific joint project, investment amount, implementation deadline or new technology programme was announced as part of the latest science and technology discussions. The immediate focus remains on reviewing the proposed roadmap, coordinating with Pakistan’s National Metrology Institute and identifying practical areas for implementation under the existing MoU.
