A new mechanism has been introduced by PTA to facilitate the temporary registration of mobile devices belonging to overseas Pakistanis. Under this new system, mobile devices brought into the country will be allowed to operate for up to 120 days without being subject to any taxes or duties. This initiative aims to ease the process for overseas Pakistanis visiting the country by providing them with a temporary solution to use their devices without incurring additional costs.

To register their devices under this new scheme, applicants are required to apply for ‘temporary registration’ through the PTA’s DIRBS. The process involves entering the applicant’s credentials, including the device’s IMEI number. In addition to this, the PTA has integrated the DIRBS system with FIA’s IBMS to verify the applicant’s passport number, ensuring the legitimacy of the registration process. Furthermore, PTA will also cross-verify the applicant’s mobile number and SIM details with the relevant mobile operators to ensure that the registration is valid.

The implementation of this system marks a significant step in improving the regulatory framework for mobile device usage in Pakistan, particularly for overseas Pakistanis who often face challenges when bringing their personal devices into the country. This mechanism provides a straightforward and efficient way for visitors to use their mobile phones during their stay in Pakistan without the burden of paying additional taxes or duties, as long as their devices are registered properly.

For those interested in applying for the temporary registration of their mobile devices, the PTA has provided a dedicated portal where applicants can enter their details and complete the registration process. The online system ensures that the process is seamless and convenient, allowing for quicker validation and approval. More details about the registration process can be found through PTA’s official platform: Temporary Registration Portal. This new mechanism is expected to bring relief to many overseas Pakistanis, offering them a hassle-free way to stay connected during their visit to Pakistan while also ensuring that mobile devices are properly regulated.
