National Assembly’s Standing Committee on IT and Telecom has summoned the Chairman of PTA to address recent disruptions and slowdowns of WhatsApp services in the country.

The committee also discussed the government’s plans to launch 5G technology in the first quarter of 2025 and the establishment of the Telecommunications Appellate Tribunal.

Committee members expressed concerns over the challenges faced by the IT sector, including difficulties in importing smartphones and laptops due to taxes, and the need for a more conducive environment for businesses.

The meeting highlighted the importance of transparency in the appointment process for the Telecommunications Appellate Tribunal and the need for a comprehensive policy framework for the 5G rollout.

The committee emphasized the significance of 5G technology in driving economic growth and improving public services.
