Mehran University of Engineering & Technology (MUET) has entered into a formal agreement with the Government of Sindh to deliver training under the People’s IT Program Phase-II (PITP-II). The Memorandum of Understanding was signed on September 2 at a ceremony in Karachi, where Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah officially launched the new phase. Highlighting the achievements of the first phase of the programme, the Chief Minister described PITP-I as a matter of pride, noting that 4,300 graduates had already been equipped with globally recognised IT skills that enabled them to play an active role in Pakistan’s economy. He also stressed that women’s participation and rural inclusion remain central to the programme’s objectives.

Under PITP-II, the initiative will expand significantly, aiming to train 35,000 students across Sindh in 12 emerging digital technologies. In addition, 1,750 Chromebooks will be distributed among top-performing students to support their learning journey. The programme has a wide eligibility range, extending from matriculation to graduation levels, for young people up to the age of 28. This approach ensures that opportunities reach a broad cross-section of youth, equipping them with relevant skills to participate in the digital economy. MUET will establish training hubs in multiple cities and towns, including Jamshoro, Hyderabad, Qasimabad, Latifabad, Mirpurkhas, Dadu, Badin, Thatta, Tando Muhammad Khan, Umerkot, and Hala. By spreading resources across urban and rural areas, the initiative seeks to bridge the digital divide and provide accessible training to young learners across the province.

The MoU was signed by MUET Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Tauha Hussain Ali, with Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Aneel Kumar also present at the ceremony. Both emphasised the university’s ongoing commitment to preparing students for the demands of the digital economy and creating pathways for sustainable economic participation. The partnership with the Sindh Government reflects a shared vision of building a skilled workforce capable of responding to the rapid growth of digital technologies both nationally and globally.

PITP-II is not only about skill development but also about creating an inclusive framework that integrates local communities into the broader digital landscape. By providing access to modern tools, fostering innovation, and supporting entrepreneurship, the programme positions youth as active contributors to Sindh’s digital transformation. Through training hubs, technology access, and recognition of top performers, MUET and the Sindh Government are reinforcing the importance of collaboration in equipping young people with the tools necessary to succeed in a fast-changing economy. With its expanded scope, PITP-II is set to strengthen digital education, empower underserved regions, and contribute to long-term growth across Sindh.
