Ali Rashid, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Sindh for the Science and Information Technology Department, held a meeting with a delegation from Google Global that arrived in Pakistan from the United States, along with representatives of Tech Valley. The meeting focused on expanding technology opportunities across Sindh, bringing together provincial government representation with Google’s visiting team to discuss several initiatives aimed at strengthening the province’s digital ecosystem.
Discussions during the meeting included the establishment of Google Gemini Corners in every division of Sindh, a plan that would extend access to Google’s AI tools and resources to a broader geographic spread within the province rather than concentrating such facilities solely in Karachi or other major urban centers. This divisional approach suggests an effort to bring technology access and AI related resources closer to students and residents in areas outside the province’s primary commercial hub, potentially widening the reach of Google’s tools to smaller cities and towns across Sindh.
The meeting also covered capacity building scholarships for youth, along with initiatives to provide Chromebooks to technology students across the province. Together, these initiatives point toward a broader effort to combine funding support, in the form of scholarships, with direct hardware access through Chromebook distribution, giving students both the financial assistance and physical tools needed to pursue technology education and skills development in a more structured and accessible way.
The Sindh government also noted it was a matter of satisfaction that Google has established its first office in Pakistan in Karachi, describing the development as an important step toward strengthening Sindh’s digital ecosystem and creating new technology opportunities for the province’s youth. Coming alongside the discussions on Gemini Corners, scholarships, and Chromebook distribution, the meeting suggests Google is pursuing a multi pronged approach to its engagement in Pakistan, combining its new physical presence in Karachi with education and skills focused initiatives carried out in partnership with the Sindh government and Tech Valley. As these discussions move from initial talks toward implementation, the resulting initiatives could extend Google’s footprint across Pakistan’s technology and education landscape well beyond its newly opened Karachi office.
